Short spell as a publican

The Surrey Advertiser records that James David Butters was a for a short time licensee of the Northampton Arms, Teddington, South West London. The edition of 14 July 1883 reports a report of Sunbury sessions at which there was a transfer to him from Henry Harvey. The edition of 17 May 1884 reports a further transfer, from James to Arthur John Henderson.

This is presumably James David Butters (1838-1891). I haven’t found anyone else by that name alive at the time. In an earlier post, I reported that James and his sister-in-law, Mary Pollie Butters (nee Culver) ran way to a hotel in Gravesend (Kent). Between then and 1991 they lived at various places, including Grapes Public House in Luton (Bedfordshire) and 60 Kings Road Camden (London). He ran away with his sister-in-law – Birds of Cressingham (wordpress.com)
